8th DCAW emphasises cooperation on food security

The 8th German-Chinese Agricultural Week (DCAW) took place in Beijing from Nov 21-25, 2022. As the flagship event of the German-Chinese Agricultural Centre (DCZ), which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and run by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH, the DCAW has established itself as an important platform for exchange within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the BMEL and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA).

The DCAW is supported by MARA and BMEL and organised by the DCZ. Due to the recent increase in Covid-19 cases, the conference was changed at short notice from a hybrid to an online format. Therefore, only the DCZ project team and the moderators were present at the conference venue at the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of the (MARA).

The five-day event focused on addressing current and future challenges to national and global food security. A high-level forum offered expert perspectives on the current global food crisis and highlighted the contributions that Sino-German cooperation in agriculture can make to strengthen food security and create a fair, stable and sustainable agricultural and food system that works for all. Three thematic forums took a closer look at how digital technologies, seed development and strategies to reduce food loss and waste can be used to improve food security at national and global levels. The conference concluded with an event showcasing the role of agribusiness and the closing event of the China-Germany Arable and Agricultural Technology Demonstration Park (DCALDP).

The DCAW was broadcast online and reached well over 1,000 viewers on Chinese livestreaming platforms and around 250 participants on Zoom.

More information on the speakers and their contributions can be found on the DCZ Website.
