IAK supports feasibility study for agricultural investment project in Nigeria
From Jun 17-25, 2026, IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH conducted an agricultural feasibility study in Nigeria for a proposed 100-ha farm development project by a private investor in Ogun State, near Abeokuta.
The mission aimed to assess the site's agricultural potential, infrastructure, water and energy availability, market demand, and the practical conditions required for successful project implementation. The IAK team carried out site visits, documented GPS coordinates, collected field data, and engaged extensively with local communities and key stakeholders.
An important part of the mission was the exchange with public institutions and academic partners. The IAK team met with representatives of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, including the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Taiwo Jolaoso.
The delegation also visited the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). Discussions with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde and other university representatives focused on greenhouse production, agricultural research, extension and training services, and opportunities for future cooperation.
Further activities included exchanges with farmers and stakeholders across the agricultural value chain. To better understand market opportunities, the IAK team met with SPAR Nigeria/Artee Industries Limited as well as representatives of supermarkets, restaurant chains, and food-service companies.
The team also visited providers of greenhouse systems and innovative cultivation technologies, including BIC Farm Concepts, a company specializing in the design, construction, and equipment of modern greenhouse facilities, and Soilless Farm Lab, which specializes in hydroponics, vertical farming, and soilless cultivation systems. In addition, IAK held discussions with construction companies, solar energy providers, agricultural service companies, and other agribusiness stakeholders at the ECOWAS-Aviana West Africa International Expo in Ibadan.
The mission provided valuable first-hand insights into Nigeria's agricultural potential, institutional framework, market opportunities, and the practical requirements for developing a modern farming operation. The findings will form the basis for the next phase of the feasibility study and support the development of realistic, phased, and locally adapted recommendations for the proposed agricultural investment project in Ogun State.
