International forum in Rome discusses sustainable development of Ukrainian food systems
On Oct 15, 2024, the 2nd Forum “Food Systems Transformation in Ukraine – Prospects for Long-term Sustainable Development" took place in Rome. The event was organized by the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD), which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH. The event took place on the premises of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
At the forum, Ukrainian, European and international experts from politics, science and business discussed current challenges and opportunities for the Ukrainian food system. In addition to the status quo in Ukraine, global trends were presented. Particular attention was paid to the challenges posed by the war and Ukraine's EU accession process.
The high-ranking speakers included Dr. Ophelia Nick, Parliamentary State Secretary of the BMEL, Oksana Osmachko, Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, Ambassador Andreas von Brandt, Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in Rome, and Donal Brown, Assistant Vice President, Program Management Division, IFAD.
The latest developments in agricultural policy and sustainable agriculture were presented in the speeches. The forum also successfully served as a platform for developing concrete agricultural policy recommendations and promoting international cooperation.
