International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September

Food loss and waste affect the entire value chain – from agricultural production and harvesting to storage, processing, trade and consumption. When food is lost or wasted, valuable resources and economic value are lost as well.

Reducing these losses is therefore an important part of building sustainable agrifood systems. Stronger value chains, improved production, storage and market structures, and more efficient use of resources can help prevent losses and contribute to greater food security.

Across its international projects, IAK Agrar Consulting works on strengthening agricultural value chains, facilitating knowledge and technology transfer, and supporting the development of sustainable production and market structures. Together with local and international partners, IAK thereby contributes to more resilient and efficient agricultural and food systems.

On the occasion of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September, IAK joins the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) in drawing attention to the importance of this issue.
