Learning Journey "Climate Resilience" to Austria

The overarching theme of the trip was the implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. To this end, the Saxon delegation learned about best practices from Austrian companies and institutions and took advantage of the many opportunities to form cross-sector and cross-company networks and establish contacts with relevant experts.

The trip was planned and accompanied by the Saxony Economic Development Agency, supported by the German Chamber of Commerce in Austria. Representatives of Saxon companies from various sectors were invited, as well as speakers from the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL) and the State Reservoir Administration.

The programme included exchanges with the Renewable Energy Umbrella Association, at the hydraulic engineering laboratory of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna, at voestalpine in Linz and with GRÜNSTATTGRAU Forschungs- und Innovations GmbH. The participants learned from Glacier Carbon Reduction GmbH how climate protection can be anchored in companies regardless of the industry. The implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures is also a topic at the municipal level. During visits to municipalities in Lower and Upper Austria, such as the Freistadt Energy District (EBF), the focus was on climate-neutral municipalities and renaturation measures, for example.
