Study tour of Mongolian executives from the agricultural sector to Germany

The objective of the project-organised study tour was to provide technical support to the Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MELL) and the Mongolian National Crop Farmers Association (MNCFA) in setting up an efficient and effective association and extension system. The MNCFA is still a relatively young umbrella organisation that brings together members from the arable, fruit and vegetable farming sectors.

The first stop in Germany was Frankfurt am Main, from where the delegation visited the Hessian Farmers' Association in Friedrichsdorf/Ts. and the German Agricultural Society (DLG). At the DLG, the Mongolian guests were able to exchange views with experts from the Rentenbank and the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO), among others, on agricultural subsidies and crop insurance.

Other stops were the office of the Ecomodel Region South of the State of Hesse and the Education and Extension Centre of LLH Hesse, a visit to the potato advisory service of Heilbronn e.V. and LVB Raiffeisen eG in Schrozberg. As the participants were very interested in visiting farms and companies from the upstream and downstream sectors, the programme also included visits to a feed mill, a potato marketing company and various agricultural and horticultural businesses.

During the trip, the delegation made intensive use of the opportunities for a lively exchange of information and experience with the various organisations and companies, which is to be continued after the FIF.

The German-Mongolian Cooperation Project on Sustainable Agriculture (DMKNL) is a bilateral cooperation project of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), which has been implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH since 2013 in what is now the fourth project phase.
