Successful project launch: IAK and INCA promote knowledge transfer and training in Angola’s coffee sector

During a two-and-a-half-week mission to Angola in the second half of April, IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH, together with the Instituto Nacional do Café de Angola (INCA), laid important foundations for the implementation of the new coffee project. The project aims to sustainably strengthen Angola’s coffee sector through training, institutional cooperation, and the promotion of modern agricultural practices.

Numerous working and coordination meetings were held on-site to define the operational framework and prepare upcoming project activities. These included discussions with Secretary of State Castro Paulino Camarada, as well as a high-level meeting with the Angolan Minister of Agriculture H.E. Isaac Francisco Maria dos Anjos.

A particular highlight was the official project kick-off event at the Ministry of Agriculture in Luanda. Representatives from various institutions and stakeholders of the coffee sector, members of the media, and Angolan national television attended the event. The opening remarks were delivered, among others, by the German Ambassador to Angola, Dr. Stefan Traumann, and State Secretary João Manuel Bartolomeu da Cunha. Their speeches particularly emphasized IAK’s expertise and the importance of the coffee sector for Angola’s economic diversification.

Following the official project launch, the first training sessions for about 60 multipliers were conducted in Gabela (Kwanza Sul Province), one of Angola’s most important coffee-growing regions. The training focused on “Pillars 1 and 2” of Good Agricultural Practices (“Boas Práticas Agrícolas”) and marked the beginning of a comprehensive qualification program within the framework of the project.

With the successful launch of the first training activities, an important foundation has been laid for the further implementation of the project. In the coming months, additional training sessions, analytical activities, and strategic measures for the sustainable development of Angola’s coffee sector are planned.
