Ukrainian delegation at EuroTier 2024 – focus on animal welfare, sustainability and European integration
As part of the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD), which IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH implements as the lead partner, we accompanied a high-ranking delegation from Ukraine to EuroTier 2024 in Hanover last week. The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) Committee on Agriculture, the State Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine and associations of Ukrainian dairy and pig producers.
At EuroTier, which took place from Nov 12-15, 2024, in Hanover, 2,193 exhibitors from 51 countries presented innovative animal husbandry and renewable energy solutions. Around 120,000 trade visitors from 149 countries used the trade fair to find out about animal welfare, sustainability, digitalization and AI. The Ukrainian delegation also made valuable contacts with German and European partners. Over 500 events and conferences offered further opportunities to deepen specialist knowledge.
A special highlight was the joint panel discussion of the APD Ukraine and APD Moldova, both projects of the Bilateral Cooperation Program (BKP) of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The panel on “Opportunities and challenges of EU integration for livestock farming in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine” was introduced by welcoming remarks from Dr. Ophelia Nick, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMEL, Taras Vysotskiy, 1st Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and Iurie Scripnic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova.
Expert discussions were also held in Berlin, Braunschweig and Hanover, including with the BMEL, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, the Thünen Institute and the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES). The focus was on the challenges and opportunities of EU integration for Ukrainian livestock farming, traceability and animal health requirements and strengthening trade in animal products.
We would like to thank all partners and institutions for their hospitality and expertise, which made this trip a great success. Together we are working to promote sustainable and innovative agriculture in Europe and beyond.
