Agricultural Policy Dialogue Germany – South East Europe: Expert Dialogue on Sustainable Forest Management

Forest management in South East Europe (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia) is only partially in line with the objectives of the EU Forest Strategy 2023, which calls for near-natural management to protect biodiversity. Given this situation, the regional working group on sustainable forest management has agreed to improve the political framework conditions for biodiversity monitoring, further education and training, and small(est) private forest owners.
As part of the project, national experts are analysing challenges in priority forest policy areas to create the basis for adapted advice from the state enterprise HessenForst. The recommendations developed are then presented, discussed and adopted for use in the respective project countries as part of the regular meetings of the working group.
The dialogue on sustainable forest management is thus intended to create a political framework for forest management compatible with EU requirements.
The local project implementer is the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) of South Eastern Europe. The international consulting contribution is implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH.
