Faced with the effects of climate change, agricultural companies are facing major changes. The basis of reliable corporate planning for crop production is always the yield in kind to be achieved. In particular, higher temperatures in the growing season, accompanied by reduced precipitation, raise the question of the extent to which the yield level will develop in the future. Reliable forecasts are the basis for a solid economic planning calculation.

The project objective is therefore the implementation of a medium- to long-term, site- and crop-specific yield forecast based on the available water balance. The basis for this is formed by known yield results of the past, combined with the associated weather patterns of the corresponding vegetation periods. For defined locations, natural yield forecasts are generated on the basis of climate models.

The project is carried out by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH together with the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI). All necessary weather forecasts are provided by the German Weather Service (DWD).
