German-Brazilian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD), Phase 2
Since 2021, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has been funding the German-Brazilian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD Brazil) through the Bilateral Cooperation Program (BKP). Brazil, as Germany's most important economic partner in South America and a major player in global agriculture, offers great potential for sustainable and innovative agroecological approaches thanks to its natural resources and agricultural production.
The second phase of the APD Brazil builds on previous successes and aims to further intensify cooperation and consolidate the results achieved. The main objective of the second phase is to improve the framework conditions for a sustainable and agroecological agricultural sector in Brazil through a deeper understanding and even more intensive cooperation between German and Brazilian experts and managers.
Planned outcomes include the rehabilitation of degraded pastureland, the promotion of the right to food and support for family farms and sustainable food systems. Another focus is on promoting organic farming and the bioeconomy as well as ensuring deforestation-free supply chains and traceability systems. The establishment of a Project Management Unit (PMU) with regular meetings to coordinate project activities, the greater involvement of civil society and the implementation of an impact-oriented monitoring and evaluation concept are key measures for achieving these goals.
The project relies on comprehensive dialog and cooperation between political, scientific and civil society actors in both countries. The focus is on involving all relevant stakeholders and adapting the content to Brazil's agricultural policy priorities and reform plans. Through the bilateral exchange of experience and knowledge, the project strives for close and equal cooperation between Germany and Brazil in order to develop and implement sustainable and innovative solutions for the agricultural policy challenges of both countries.
The project is implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH.
