The project aims to support Ukraine in developing a sustainable forest management system and strategies to align with European forest management standards. The focus is on modernizing forest management practices, improving the policy framework and strengthening the capacity of Ukrainian forestry institutions to address current environmental challenges.

By using data from the National Forest Inventory (NFI), the project enables better decision-making and more reliable management of forest resources. The main objectives also include improving the State Forest Management and Planning Agency (SFMPA), ensuring accurate forest data collection and implementing sustainable management practices in state forests. In addition, the project is working to improve the organizational structure and efficiency of the newly created State Forest Enterprise (SFE), which manages essentially all of Ukraine's forests.

In addition to improving policy and management, the project promotes biodiversity and the multifunctional use of forest resources and contributes to Ukraine's climate protection goals. Through the introduction of training programs, technical expertise and new management strategies, a sustainable and multifunctional forest management system will be created that not only protects Ukraine's forest resources, but also creates economic benefits through the responsible use of timber and non-timber forest products.

The project is being implemented by the consortium IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH (lead partner) and unique land use GmbH.
