Climate change adaptation strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Vietnamese coffee sector

Climate change has been putting coffee production in northern Vietnam under severe pressure for years. Heat waves, floods, but also increasingly severe and prolonged periods of frost reduce not only the quality but also the quantities of coffee produced. The project "Climate Resilient Agricultural Systems (CRAS) – Project Vietnam Component", implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, therefore aims to support SMEs in developing and implementing their climate change adaptation strategies.

The Climate Expert Tool (CET) is a very comprehensive, Excel-based tool that not only identifies the risks of climate change for a specific sector, but also comprehensively searches for adaptation as well as business opportunities and their financing. These are then examined and prioritised by means of a cost-benefit analysis. This guarantees that only the best options are implemented by the SMEs.
