High-level Ukrainian delegation to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome
As part of the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD Ukraine) funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH, a high-ranking Ukrainian delegation visited the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Ukrainian delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the professional associations of the Ukrainian National Agrarian Forum, the Association of Territorial Municipalities, BMEL, the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) and the APD project team.
At the APD Forum, which took place on 17 and 18 October 2023, the delegation discussed current issues such as the transformation of food systems in Ukraine, the reconstruction of the agricultural sector and rural development after the end of the war with representatives of the relevant political institutions, specialised organisations and donors such as the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), which has its headquarters in Rome, as well as IFAD, the World Bank, IFC (International Finance Corporation), UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and WFP (UN World Food Programme). The Ukrainian partners also discussed current issues such as the transformation of food systems in Ukraine, the reconstruction of the agricultural sector and rural development after the end of the war. The Ukrainian partners also worked out possible approaches for further cooperation.
This year's APD Forum took place in parallel with the FAO Conference. This runs from Oct 16-20, 2023 on the theme "World Food Day and World Food Forum 2023". Leaders, experts, decision-makers and young and indigenous activists meet at FAO headquarters in Rome to discuss the challenges of food production and food security systems, sustainability and climate action, and to develop solutions.
