Deforestation-free supply chains from Brazil – new perspectives for sustainability governance in agricultural and environmental policy

A Brazilian delegation with experts from politics, civil society and the private sector visited Berlin and Brandenburg this week to exchange bilateral views on new perspectives for the governance of sustainability in agricultural and environmental policy.

Topics in the discussions, e.g. with the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin, included the EU and German perspectives on the Deforestation Regulation, corresponding strategic measures (e.g. payments for environmental services), instruments for measuring strategic measures and potential leakage effects.

During a visit to the family farm "Döberitzer Heide-Galloways" on the outskirts of Berlin, the delegation was able to get an idea of how the interplay of nature conservation, landscape management and biodiversity can work through site-adapted forms of management.

The Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD) Brazil is funded by the BMEL and implemented by IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH.
